ARCH. PORTFOLIO // 2025
Hi, I’m Shane. I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in architecture at NJIT, currently battling through my 4th year studio. I am passionate about all fields of design and the ways it can be used to shape experiences and environments, and I most appreciate architecture as a medium to explore these opportunities. I am far more interested in the creative/conceptual side of design, but I do understand that technical knowledge, in both hard and soft skills, is the limit to these creative ideas, and I work hard to make sure one side is never out pacing the other.
I have a particular interest in graphics and typography design and I often try to implement them into my architectual projects and representation. I don’t think it’s always incredibly successful, but I much prefer to fail at making work that excites me rather than succeed at something I know will work.

A highschool that exists on the coast of Tuckerton, NJ, this intervention employs a light and tactile structure to minimize impact on the existing ecosystem and employ a visual, physical, and audible connection between the students and the site.
Over time as the sea levels rise (+2.5ft by 2050, +4.9ft by 2080) parts of the project will be flooded by water and no longer be accessible, serving as a narritive element on the effects of global warming and to create different experiences of the project depending on the time of day as tides change. However, all of the programs are lifted high enough to outlast the rising levels in these time frames.
Along the circulation path, there are many place for students to gather and rest, delineated by changes in elevation. There is a second path that branches off that lead to more secluded/private areas and offer redundancy in the navigation of the classrooms.
A graph was established early on in the design process to establish relationships between different programs of the high school. The “head” acts as the main node of the school, serving as an intermediary space for the more public functions and working as a static location. It then leads to the “tail,” the dynamic section of the project that encourages more circulation as it transitions to the four remaining nodes, each one serving as an intermediary space for clusters of classrooms that are related to each other programmatically, This gives each one a sense of connection and environment.
To foster a connection between the structure and the site, the 5 main nodes of the structure connect a series of dispersed lakes and follow the geometry of manmade strips of water cut into the site.
A truss system along the pathway limits intervention by allowing columns to span up to 25ft.
Long Span trusses allow for larger programs like gym and cafeterias without burden of large load-bearing walls.
